Absolutely gorgeous day, so we took advantage of it, taking a walk on the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail at Ohiopyle. Too cold for bikes so we swapped them out for our hiking boots. Such incredibly blue skies.
Mental Health Day on the Bike Trail
I work at a computer in a room without a view. Well, there’s a view, but it’s through a window that’s behind me, and I don’t get much done if I sit and stare out of it as much as I’d like. So we decided the day was warm enough, and the rain was crossing its legs, and we weren’t getting …
GAP bike trail: Confluence to Pinkerton Tunnel
Today’s bike ride on the Great Allegheny Passage took us from Confluence, PA to the Pinkerton Tunnel (please consider donating to get this tunnel back into usable condition) on the other side of Fort Hill, PA. And then, when we got back, the bonus came in the form of an incredibly delicious black bean burger chaser at the Lucky Dog Café.
Big Savage Tunnel (Great Allegheny Passage bike trail)
Went for a bike ride on the Great Allegheny Passage today. We started in Meyersdale and rode through the Big Savage Tunnel. This is the Keystone Viaduct, which is closer to the Meyersdale end. And here’s the entrance to the tunnel heading east. That teeny tiny little light at the far end is the other end. It’s 3,294.6 feet long, …
Bike the Great Allegheny Passage
Biked the Great Allegheny Passage from Rockwood, PA to the Pinkerton Tunnel, near Fort Hill. (The standard action shot.) “Pinkerton 1911” engraved above the tunnel. Inside the tunnel itself. They’re raising funds to open it. Right now it’s closed with a path to get around that extends over a mile. Every dollar donated will be matched with an additional $17. …
Bike Trail!
Our first excursion on the Great Allegheny Passage this year! We started in Ohiopyle and rode to Ramcat (Pennsylvania). That’s only 18 miles, but considering we haven’t ridden since (I think) last September, I’m satisfied with it. Beautiful, beautiful day.
Wellsboro Bike Rides=Wildlife Adventure
A couple of weeks ago we trekked up to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, to spend some time on their rails to trails, but we weren’t ready for everything we saw while we were there. On our first day on the bike trail while we were riding along we saw a large animal on the trail ahead of us. When I exclaimed, “It’s a cat!” …
Photos while bike riding
Yeah. It probably isn’t a good idea to take photos while you’re actually moving on the bike, but I couldn’t resist. Great Allegheny Passage from Confluence to Fort Hill. Cleared the cobwebs. Got me focused. A few days ago I had written about 12 important pages for the end of my latest novel, and they felt like I just wanted …
Biking in unheard-of February weather
We took advantage of the beautiful mid-60s temperatures and headed out for about 15 miles on the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail. We started at the West Newton trail head and turned around on the other side of Van Meter. The bench outside the West Newton train station visitor’s center. Texture texture texture. You never know when it will come in …
Get Out: Wildlife
Took advantage of the cool(ish) temperatures and low humidity to get out of the house. Today we rode our bikes from Ohiopyle to Confluence and back, and along the way we ran into a bit of wildlife. Dame’s Rocket. Found these little guys in Ramcat. Also in Ramcat a few minutes after I took the photograph above. I think he …
If it has to be cold, at least it is sunny
Too cold for a bike ride today, but it was time to get out of the studio! We took a hike on the Five Star Trail that stretches between Greensburg and Youngwood. The Five Star Trail runs along a former railway system, so we had great opportunities for shots like this. The trail also runs beside towns and factories, some …
A figure I drew this afternoon
Trying to warm myself back up for some figure drawings. I haven’t been deep into it for over 11 years, but it must be like riding a bike. (I also picked an easy pose to get back in the groove, which I’m sure helped.)
